Obama pledges to reduce nuclear weapons in Berlin speech

NBC News: President Obama called for a cut in nuclear weapon arsenals in a speech delivered Wednesday in front of Berlin’s iconic Brandenburg Gate.

Obama’s speech came nearly 50 years after JFK’s June 26, 1963, speech in which he told a huge crowd: “Ich bin ein Berliner.”

The US will reduce its deployed nuclear weapons by ‘up to a third,’ Obama said, while also seeking negotiated cuts with Russia.

“…If we believe that the spread of nuclear weapons is inevitable, then in some way we are admitting to ourselves that the use of nuclear weapons is inevitable,” Obama said.
